MELT SCENES

MELT SCENE 1

What
Needest
thou
explanations?
listen close as
your can
to the un-manning of man
Denial
feigned
ignorance
is no excuse
neither
ignorant
ignorance
so listen
well and
ignore
no more
Good Morning?
in America
they used to say
cock-a-doodle-doooooo
cock-a-doodle-doooooo
cock-a-doodle-doooooo
now they say
crack-a-diddle-don't
crack-a-diddle-don't
crack-a-diddle-don-t
MELT SCENE 2

EARTH
I used to smell
like fish and lavender
and cows and meadows
and porcupines and evergreens
now i smell of pennies
Pennies?
Yes, pennies
ah yes that coppery smell, the smell of blood
what do porcupines smell like?
EARTH
oh please
FOWL
buffalo woman
who ever thought
earth would
become extinct
there's a sign now
on mars that says
"wanted
foster planet
for earthen orbs"
MELT SCENE 3

It All Began With One Can
each of us is
that can
the erosion of
our environmentally authentic selves
the pollution of
all that is and was
and should have been we
started with the
antithesis of me
one can
MELT SCENE 4

Pollutants
what pollutes
the polluter
that he or she
would soil mother earth
with pollutants?
the rusty can of childhood negligence
plastic breasts of latex and
nipple implants
we are the stuff
of which cans
are made of
peek a boo
peep-eye too
games turn tricks
into cans
tickle me here
tickle me there
lower...lower
if you dare, dare, double dare
triple dog dare
touch me not flowers that
become touch me so and so's
jonesing over
keeping up with the joneses
cans, cans, cans
unloving reprimands
can-can
poop poop pee do
show your ankle too
i'm bad, i'm bad
you show me your can
and i'll show you mine
blind uncle bunt
back from Afghanistan
adorns the corner of
second and noplace place
holding his can low
for his groin now knows
a nickel from a quarter
remembering when
toots, firecracker and juice
jumped him in
to make him a man
they're all dead
now he's a can with a can
hey mister can,
can you spare a dime
MELT SCENE 5

Canning
canning
to preserve something
past its
expiration date
to can
to freeze
in time
the natural process
of death
to maintain
a semblance of flavor
but not the original
excitement of the pristine textures
yet to live longer at
less better
than the original best
if we don't
put it in a can
then what?
plastic man, plastic!
Question...Answer
will there be
cans in heaven?
only as a verb.
MELT SCENE 6

Rage
what happens to
unrequited rage?
it pollutes everything
it touches
and i became
a multitude of cans
earth doesn't stand a chance
or does she
whispered global warming
as mother nature
blew
her heated breath on
the polar ice caps
the bowels of earth grumbled
awakening tomorrows
earthquaked tsunamis
Another Beginning
let there be
environmental
inner awakeness
and earth said
that's good
and on the first day
earth rested
