Breaking the Glass Ceiling

the men talked and squawked
and belly hawked
and hemmed and hummed
and drummady-drum-drummed
they nodded and prodded and
shim-shodded
ignoring the she of her.
she tried to pitch in
and contribute to the men
for she was more than able
to sit at their table
but over and over
and man to the man
they ignored her presence again and again
she tried to get in a word
trying to be heard
they were boisterous and full
of testronic bravado
as if they and only they could be in the know
she knew it wasn't right
but to get their eyesight
and undivided attention
without mention
for she was more than a photo op
she was well skilled and able
so unsnapping her brassiere she
quietly placed it on the table
"what?"
one man said
trying to put his eyes back in his head
"as I was trying to say"
they all looked her way
she knew it wasn't right
but she had their eyesight
and not to mention
their fullest attention
even though she had to take off some gear
to get them to hear
she cleared her throat so as not to appear lofty
"just wanted to know if you boys wanted more coffee"
